Brian Dunphy

Founder of Our Hometown

Born and bred on the Northern Beaches, Brian Dunphy’s a Northern Beaches local, through and through.

With a long history of involvement in local sport (Curl Curl Youth Club & MWFC) and community causes (a founder of Harbord community bank) and a passion for all things Northern Beaches, it makes sense that this local businessman would be the brains behind Our Hometown, an exciting new online place for the Northern Beaches community to connect.

“It all started when I was really missing knowing all of the ‘hatches, matches and dispatches’ in our local area,” says Brian. “I realised there was no single place anymore, either online or in print, where Northern Beaches locals could share these important milestones of their lives – their births, special birthdays, marriages and deaths.”

“I realised the Northern Beaches community really needed their own place to connect, that was curated with only local content. It had to be free and accessible for everyone, with no algorithms controlling what they see, no paywalls blocking them and no membership fees.”

“What began as a simple idea to share the milestones in our lives, is now growing into a space where locals can interact with other local people, groups, businesses and organisations, find out what’s going on in local sport, entertainment, pubs & clubs, charity events, reunions and so much more.”

“Our Hometown has been created FOR the local community but it’s also written BY the local community. I want you to tell us what is happening and share your stories and events with everyone. I want us to connect as one and bring the local community together, from Manly to Palm Beach and from Terrey Hills to the coast.”

“The entire Northern Beaches area has been recognised as one local government area for just over five years, but for many of us the sense of being one united community has been with us all our lives. Being called the ‘Insular Peninsula’ is worn as a badge of honour and the ‘us and them’ mentality has driven us to many sporting and business successes. Our Hometown is here to enhance that sense of belonging and comradeship.”

“Our Hometown is here for you and I’m glad you’re here. I look forward to getting to know you all, our Northern Beaches neighbours!”
